What does the broker do at claim time – and what's the fastest route?
Let's clarify who does what at claim time: reporting and claim intake run through the insurer's system – that's the fastest route. The broker's role isn't to replace the claims line, but to focus on what matters most: preparing you in advance, helping when things stall, and arguing the case when it's disputed.
- Report the claim through the insurer's claims line or online platform – I've gathered the fastest contact details on the Claims page.
- The broker adds real value where a case gets stuck, requests for missing documents turn chaotic, or the payout is disputable.
- After a claim, we build the lesson into the renewal: sum insured, deductible, limit – that's what makes the policy better.
The fastest route: directly with the insurer
Insurers' claims systems are built exactly for this: through the claims line or the online reporting form you get a claim number straight away, the inspection appointment gets arranged, and the documents all flow into one place. It's therefore worth starting a routine claim directly there – on my Claims page I've gathered the phone numbers and links by insurer, so you don't have to go searching when something goes wrong.
What you can do in advance to keep things running smoothly: have your policy number ready, take photos of the damage before any repair, and mitigate the loss – stop anything that would otherwise keep getting worse. These steps are the same at every insurer.
When is it worth involving me?
In three typical situations: if the case has stalled (a request for missing documents goes unanswered, the inspection keeps slipping), if the payout amount or a rejection seems disputable – in which case I look at the terms and conditions to see what can be done – and if it's not clear which policy or which cover is affected. Feel free to reach out in these situations: this is where I can genuinely add something to the case.
Honestly, this belongs in the picture too: nobody will be faster than the insurer for routine administration, and not every dispute can be won. My added value is knowledge of the terms and conditions and experience – where it's genuinely needed.
The lesson from a claim: the renewal cycle
Every closed claim teaches you something about the policy: was the sum insured enough, was the deductible set right, was any cover missing. We build this into the review, if it is warranted or you ask – so the next claim finds a better policy already in place.
If you'd like to talk through the lessons from a recent claim, the first consultation is free – bring the policy and the claim documents, and we'll get a clear picture in half an hour.
Still have a question? Let's talk it through in 20 minutes.
I'll assess your needs and walk you through the options – the decision is yours. I charge no fee for the consultation.

The specific cover, exclusions and premiums are always determined by the given insurer's terms and conditions in force – it is worth reviewing these point by point when you request a quote.
